Drums!

In 1986 I made some ceramic drums. 5 years later I scraped a deer hide and stretched the heads. I have included a short recording of each so that you can hear what a ceramic drum sounds like. The have a very "bright" sound in my opinion.
For the recordings all of the drums were struck with a tympany mallet, perhaps you have seen them, they are like a drumstick with a soft white pom-pom on the end.

Drum #1(left) This one is an extruded tube 27 ½ in. h. Click here to hear it. As you can hear it has a nice bright percussive (well, it is a drum!) quality about it. Drum #2(right) is 8 in. h. Click here to hear it. It is also made from extruded clay.
(left) Drum #3 was thrown on a wheel and then added onto with coils. Click here to hear it. (right) Drum #4 is two extruded peices joined to make a sort of ceramic bongo set. Click here to hear both sides.
This is the "bass" of my ceramic drums. It is 14 in. h. and 17 ½ in. w. Click here to hear what it sounds like.

About the Lack of Music

I thought that since you would be clicking to hear what the drums sound like I would not add music to this page.
