Pot Luck?

Here's my Essay for October, I hope you enjoy it.

I didn’t receive any submissions to the Essay this time.

I heard a report on the radio today in which a woman was talking about Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. It made me recall a recording I had of the New York Philharmonic doing the Fifth, I forget who was conducting. I don’t remember because it has been almost 20 years since that recording disappeared while I was in Athens, Greece. But that isn’t surprising; I was pretty careless with many things.

I love that Symphony and I always stop whatever I am doing around the house to listen if it comes on the radio. I also like to stop and look closer at paintings by Van Gogh if I just happen to pass one in the hall. I’ve been known to set off museum alarms by looking too close at how thick the paint was applied.

What a great world. Just knowing that there are things like Beethoven’s Fifth and Paintings by Van Gogh and great things to read, watch, look at, listen to, taste, touch smell... Heck, it is just plain great to think about it all and say “WOW!”

And there is more on the way! I hear new songs that I like and I see new Artist’s work that I like and while I don’t have much time for television I do see the occasional movie that is okay. (Most recently I saw “The Triplets of Belleville” and laughed till I cried.)
